BRIEF HISTORY OF STIA-LAN


The School of Administration (STIA-LAN) was established on December 24, 1960, with the issuance of First Minister Decree No.578/MP/1960 which was then called Higher Official Institution of Public Administration (PTDIAN). Since its establishment, PTDIAN had been conducting a graduate degree program. On July 7, 1964 The Presidium of Work Cabinet issued its Decree No. Aa/C/77/1964 to establish the Academy of Administration Science. On March 25, 1967 PTDIAN was merged with Academy of Administration Science (AIA) under a new name of School of Administration Science, National Institute of Public Administration (STIA-LAN).Based on the Decree of the chairman of NIPA No. 875A/II/7/2/1991, STIA-LAN started to commenced Public Administration studies which covers the management of Development Program, the management of Regional Development Program and the Business Administration studies which covered the management of Public Economy. Based on the Presidential Decree No. 8/1999 on NIPA, STIA-LAN was stipulated as government official Higher Learning Institute on Administration whose existence was stated on the Presidential Decree No. 100/1999 on STIA-LAN.Since 2001 STIA-LAN started to commenced  a Master Degree Program on Public Administration covering Management of Regional Development Program and a Master Degree program on Business Administration studies covering Management of Public Economy Program. STIA-LAN in cooperation with the National Civil Service Agency, commenced a Master Degree Program on Management of Apparatus Human Resources in 2002

Since Established, STIA-LAN had graduated 23,970 alumni of Diploma 3, Graduate and Master program.

INSTITUTIONAL COOPERATIONS


STIA-LAN conducts institutional cooperation with several government institution on education and research, particularly related with current administration issues such as regional autonomy, good governance etc. For example, in 1993 STIA-LAN ran Graduate Degree Programs (S1) cooperating with BNI 46 and with Regional Military Command as well.  In the same year, STIA LAN also collaborated   with National Civil Service Agency on carrying out a diploma program on Personnel Administration.

Cooperation was also held with foreign institutions such as with Boulder University- USA and University of Arkansas- USA on Post Graduate Degree Programs (S2) in 1997. A workshop and a seminar on privatization conducted in 1997-1998 with AEMC were other forms of cooperation. A graduate degree program (S1) in Archives Management Program has also been conducted in cooperation with National Archives since 1999. A number of collaboration on research and on the job training was held with the State Ministry of Cooperation in 2000 and with the Central Government Jakarta in the same time.

In 2002, STIA LAN ran a Post Graduate Degree Program cooperating with the East Kalimantan Province. At the same time, another Post Graduate Degree Program focusing on Apparatus Resource Management Program was also held. Several collaborations have also been done with government and private companies such as with the Jakarta Local Government, State Ministry of Cooperation, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Indoprima Company in conducting some research issuing current topics such as Regional Autonomy, Good Governance, Leadership, Program Evaluation, Policy Analysis, Feasibility Studies, Total Quality Service, Public Organization Accountability, Financial Administration and other topic related with public and business administration.

 

CIVITAS AKADEMICA DEVELOPMENT


The development of lecturers competencies is carried out through various activities such as attending workshops on research methodology as well as local and international seminars, writing for producing text-books and articles, conducting individual and teamwork research.

Student development is managed by means of organizing Student Leadership Management workshops, conducting some research, participating in scientific discussions, arts, sports and cultural activities.

Staff development is managed by providing them with opportunities to continue their studies to higher degree such as to master and doctoral degree. Besides, several training courses on technical skills such as computer, treasury, project management and other trainings related with public service are also accommodated to supports the staff development.

Student Activities which are coordinated by the Student Council covering three main aspects:

Beside those programs, a forum for student Council coordination of three campuses (Jakarta, Makasar and Bandung) is regularly organized.

 

 

GRADUATE PROGRAMS


FACULTY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Public Policy Management Program

After completing this study program, the students are expected to be able to apply theories, concepts and various technical analysis of public policy management both the ones related with policy support and those related with policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as the impacts of public policies towards the natural and social environment changes.

 Regional Development Management Program

After completing this study, the students are expected to be able to apply the principles of regional development management in the performance of their daily tasks.

 Human Resources Management Program

After completing this study program, the students are expected to be able to apply the modern theories and practices on the human resources management in the performance of their daily work.

 Faculty of Business Administration :

Public Economy Management Program

After completing the study program in this faculty, the students are expected to be able to apply the theories, concepts and technics on public economy, both in the micro and macro dimensions of the government functions in regulating and in increasing delivery services to the public in general.

 

POST GRADUATE (MASTER) PROGRAM


Master Degree Program on the Management of Regional Development.

After completing this study program, students are expected to be able to apply the synergy of academic qualifications in  the management of regional development with professional challenges in dealing with related problems in their workplace.

 Master Degree Program on Public Economy Management

After completing this study program, students are expected to be able to analyze macro-economy, environmental changes which influence the micro-organizational changes, and analyze the latter as well.

 Master Program on Apparatus Human Resources Management (in cooperation with National Civil Service Agency)

After completing this study program, students are expected to be able to formulate the development of human resources strategy of the apparatus, including its related planning and performance analysis after they  complete their studies in this program.
